Please visit USA Hockey's website (http://www.usahockey.com) to review the coaching rules and requirements (under the Coaches tab -> Coaching Certification -> Rules and Requirements). This will give you a full overview of what is required of you to coach at this level.
Here is a general overview:
1. For positions involving any contact with kids, on- or off-ice, Minnesota Hockey has an online method for completing background checks. You can find the background check online form on their website www.minnesotahockey.org. Under the "Coaches/Officials" Tab, go to "Screening".
2. For those of you with on-ice or on-bench responsibilities, the Coach Education Program (CEP) certification is a 1 day, in person clinic. You will also need to do age specific modules. You can find specific information on mods and clinic dates on the Minnesota Hockey web page. Under the "Coaches/Officials" Tab, go to "Coach Education".
You need to attend the Level 1 clinic and take the U8 Mod if you are a new coach or new on ice/bench volunteer and/or have not taken a Level 1 clinic before. Returning mite coaches and volunteers only need to fill out the background screening form each season. These must be finished by Dec 31st or you will not be able to help in the association until these are completed.
