IYHA Newsletter for February 2004

From the President

To all of all Traveling teams:  Good luck in the playoffs.  Keep working hard, have a positive mind set, and keep working as a team. Finish your season strong and with a positive experience.

Also, to the Initiation program.  I hope your season has been a positive experience, keep up the hard work and having fun.

Lastly, thank you to all of the teams: volunteer coaches, managers, and treasurers. Without you it wouldn’t have been possible to have an enjoyable season. A great job parents on getting your future stars to practices and games.

                                                        Should stand for:

Happy memories to last a lifetime!

                                      Opportunity for camaraderie and friendship!

                                      Coaching, sportsmanship, pride, and skills!

Keeping focused and keeping a lifetime love of hockey!

Educating our youth on the meaning of teamwork!

Yearning to be physically fit for a lifetime!

         Brad DeKanick, President

From Sally Sawyer, Girls Coordinator

Please accept my resignation from IYHA.  In January of 2003 I made a major career move and have found my time to be less and less available for the volunteer position as girl’s coordinator.

To be the Girls Coordinator for Irondale Youth Hockey from 1999 – 2004. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to make a good thing even better! MANY THANKS TO DOUG SHAMP For initiating girls’ hockey and recruiting to make it happen!

When I took over for Doug my goals were to grow the membership, recruit and retain a quality coaching staff, and to make decisions based on the program as a whole.  Please keep in mind that decisions are made within guidelines handed down from USA Hockey, Minnesota Hockey, District 2 and IYHA.

We now have two teams at one level.  We have a coaching staff that I believe no association could match. PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO THANK AND APPRECIATE THE FOLLOWING COACHES WHO ARE COMITTED TO THE GROWTH AND SUCCESS OF IRONDALE GIRLS YOUTH HOCKEY!

Dave Isaacson, Steve Isaacson, Brad DeKanick, Tom Welty, Whitney Johnson, Mike Martinjako, Ray Mularie, Mark MacDonald

OUR 12A team is ranked 6th in the state!    WOW!!!!   Our 10 teams are doing fantastic as well and they all have a bright future!

Thanks again for a great experience…..                                         Sally Sawyer                                     YOU GO GIRLS!!!

From Jeanne Falconer, Vice President:

The 2nd weekend of the SuperRink Spectacular Tournament went very well. Irondale had no teams participating in this part of the tournament this year. (This situation will be avoided in the future by having IYHA registration take place earlier than it previously has.) I hope the volunteers that worked at the tournament had a good time.

A HUGE thank you to all of you! Brian Johnson, Kathy Peterson, Mike Zosel, Linda Opperman, Jeff Opperman, Barb Lucarelli, Bob Lammi, Todd Studer, Julie Petrangelo, Vern Healy, Randy Bortot, Mick Mata, Jeanne Lyke, Jane Fust-DeBruzzi, John Baily, Dee Brozyna, Gervaise Wilhelm, Robbie Wilhelm, Alya Wilhelm, and Tom Falconer. To our rink directors: Sue Sentieri, Gary Rundle, Brad DeKanick, John Eide and Pat O’Connor. To those who put in more than one shift: Charlie Lance, Tom Bye, Kim Geissert, Ashley Bye, Ben Bye, Stephen Soberg, Gary Rundle, Andrew Falconer, Michael Falconer and David Falconer. To Pat O’Connor and Becky Ewing who were there all weekend. If I’ve left somebody out, I do apologize.

Thank you for all of your hard work! You made the weekend a success!
