From President (Tom Lucarelli):
We are approaching the home stretch of the hockey season. Traveling team playoffs are this month -- hopefully your teams are playing their best hockey. Good luck to those teams involved.
There were recently a couple of outdoor games played by IYHA teams. From all indications the spectators and players alike had a great time. Consider arranging outdoor games for your teams.
A big thanks to all those folks who helped out with fundraising activities.  Keeping the cost of participation as low as possible helps us all.
Lastly, feedback is essential to our organization. If you believe that changes need to be made or looked into, please bring your ideas or suggestions forward.
See you all at the rink.
Attention all Association Members: Four board positions will be available in the April election. They are Vice President, Treasurer, Boys and Girls Coordinators. Please be thinking about your interest in these positions or someone to be nominated. We will be forming a nominating committee and sending out more details soon.

Website Tips
1)  Pictures seem to popping up everywhere on the website.  Here's an overview of where to find and how to manage pictures.
  • When you see a small picture (called a thumbnail), click on it to see a larger version of it.
  • Pictures that are in the upper right hand corner of the home page are a random selection of our Club pictures.  It scrolls through 5 pictures and each time you go to the home page, you get a new 5 picture scroll.
  • Pictures that are on a news item on the home page are specific only to that news item.  You can't click on it and make it bigger and it doesn't scroll
  • Groups of pictures are sometimes put into albums.  Pictures in albums won't rotate on the home page.  As the season progresses, pictures may move from the rotation into an album.  To access the pictures in an album, click on it.
  • Pictures of interest to the entire association are in the Club pictures.  Club pictures are found off the home page along the left hand side.  Click on that to find pictures from previous seasons or to find pictures of association-wide events.
  • Pictures of interest to a specific team are in Team pictures.  Team pictures are found on the left hand side of a Team Page.  Pictures not in a team album will scroll on a team home page.
  • Videos can also be submitted and uploaded.  There is a 10MB limit per video.
2) Volunteer Hours Submission Form - In order to log your required volunteer hours, you should complete the Volunteer Hours Submission Form located along the top bar under Volunteer.
3)  Any and all feedback is welcome.  Click on the Feedback button along the left hand side of the homepage.

Irondale Youth Hockey Association January Board Meeting Minutes:
IYHA Meeting Annual Meeting:  January 17, 2008Note: These minutes have not been approved. They will be reviewed, corrected as needed, and approved at the next regular Board of Directors Meeting.

Board Members Present:  Tom Lucarelli, Cheryl Mason, Jeanne Falconer, Mike Nundahl, Jean Aukee, Bob Gabler, Tom O’Keefe, Mark Mohar, Tom Johnson and Jackie Rog
Board Members Absent:  Chris Drews
Guests: Mark Rupp,Torri Johnson, Paul Dulin, Kevin Bourassa and Jenn
Minutes: Motion to accept minutes as presented (MN) (JF), motion carried.
Old Business:
Title 9 foundation check from consent agenda item last month – auditor needs board approval to give check to individual – Tom O motioned - JF second – discussion – why necessary? Auditor said we should – we run the charity – could have written check directly to individual but because to us s/b approved – because coming from another non profit – ask auditor at 8:00 tonight. All approved - motion carried.
New Business:
a.       Make It Big Photos Follow-up – Kevin 6:45PMKevin and Jenn – 15% back to assn as fundraiser - check for us – not all bag tags for all board members – some still need photos – provide feedback to him on their website – Kevin posting pictures on our website (this is the only access he has) – signed agreement – fundraiser – same as last year – will donate team poster for initiation – Nancy?
b.       2008/2009 Ice Discussion – Jackie Rog – what kind of planning can we do early? SSR split done in April and Ramsey in June/July - contact Reggie at NE rinks – can we get some of their ice since we have Edison kids – Jackie has already put in SSR hours (rink 4 or main building) for tryouts – what plan for goalie clinics? Can we schedule something early – try for less Mariucci and Ridder ice next year – Coliseum ice not usually available – get ice at Oval? MV usually gets it because they have a corner of real estate in Roseville – need to better coordinate LEC and Squirts for tryouts in addition to LEC and Pee Wees for playoffs – Bantam C’s have a game after playoffs – any clout with SSR to get more ice there? No – 70% MV and 30 % Irondale is the contract split
c.        Initiation Options – Bob Gabler – email sent to Jean and Tom to be on agenda – Bob would like to discuss approaching MV to “co-op” initiation numbers – more numbers help with leveling teams by skill – MV experiencing the similar issues to Irondale – Question for Jeanne from Cheryl – for the kids that can join IYHA after Jan 1 (up to mid Feb) do they still need registration papers? Per Jeanne – Yes.  Tom O would need to decide what they would pay. There are a lot of kids out skating – we need to get IYHA flyers out to them. Plus we should get Irondale yard signs out by the local rinks – solicit kids now.  If initiation kids not rostered on teams don’t have to register them with MN or USA hockey? Need to talk to Tom M at Dist 1 for approval? Does this require a board action? What would MV think about Edison kids – s/b OK.   Will be coach representation from each association at each level. OK with board to investigate it – 120 MV and 70 Irondale currently.
IYHA Auditor – Annual Report – 8:00PM – Greg Ovickhas been our auditor for the last 10 years – this is his last year – he is a volunteer with non-paid staff, doing accounting when not specifically trained – hard to do this kind of work because needs to serve his customers – will help with transition if necessary – handout of audit report – financial statement with IRS as informational only – we don’t pay income tax – solicitation in programs could be taxable? $1000 limit – if over tax rate is 15% so may still be worth it – attorney general is our watch dog – 3 things they look at 1) program, 2) administration, and 3) fundraising – we are heavy in the program area which is good – we are well run – we focus on program run activities – funds are handled appropriately – cover letter says every thing is fine with IYHA – contact Tom O and/or Greg if we have any questions – accepting contributions question – anonymous donor vs receipt requested vs board approval questions – we are a middle man and have to be careful – thank you (including an acknowledgement) note if more than $250 donation – can’t accept cash donations – need acknowledgement – Attorney General report given to Tom O to be mailed in – question on jerseys and how long amortized over 3 years – we don’t carry fraud insurance – do we need it?  Greg thinks yes – perhaps we should have someone come in and discuss it with us – even though we are not insured, if someone sued us we don’t have a lot of money in our IYHA accounts – Jeanne says we have insurance for members thru USA hockey – she had the brochure. OK
Tom moves approval of auditor’s annual report so we can send out the attorney general report – BG and JF second – all approved – motion carried.
Board Roundtable:
President: Tom Lucarelli. – Pete Carlson (SSR) – want to buy a sheet of ice – ½ sheet for $500 million – hand out from Pete – with purchase get certain privileges for ice times – Tom will find out details from Pete – how much ice at non–Ramsey county rinks? less than 100 hours per Jackie – Pete also asked about the Herb Brooks training center – he would like to come out and explain the program again – send it out to coaches and Pete could pitch to them at the SSR instead of just to the board – feedback with ice – get tournaments set up earlier in the year – s/b 3 tournaments per traveling team – not enough games – tournaments start showing up in July issue of Let’s Play Hockey – right for black outs – can schedule tournaments before district games.
Vice President: Cheryl Mason. – a lot of time at rink this last weekend – income statement to Tom O – 3 estimates left – hold back $5000 for next year –made a good profit this year - issues with volunteer hours again – chaotic in the end – block out teams from going to other tournaments in January – issues with MV in the planning for next year – 90% done by us and 10% by them – need more people helping with prep – change volunteer program – documentation done for planning to ease things next year – team managers should know about all volunteer opportunities and forward them to all parents so they know what kind of help is needed – Attorney General report given to Tom O to be mailed in – question on jerseys and how long amortized over 3 years.
Secretary: Jean Aukee. – New Brighton Family Service Center will begin charging $5 per 2 hour meeting starting April 1st of this year – won’t impact us until September of this year because our reservations have already been made thru August.
Treasurer: Tom O’Keefe. – 2 handouts – budget and revenue – 3a – District Fees, Refs and Tournaments – can’t get detail from Dist 1 – charging us for ice not charged in past – charging some teams directly – socks and initiation program jerseys – need more money - $2000 received from Lake Region for pull tabs – 1st check of this season.
Girls Program Coordinator: Mike Nundahl. – Inver Grove Heights tournament – U10 maroon won 1st place and U10 gold won 3rd place – thanks to Marchiafava family for pond hockey for the girls on New Years Eve.  A thank you to the high school girl’s team for letting the U10’s skate between periods on youth appreciation night in January.
Initiation Program Coordinator: Bob Gabler. – questions from 1st year parents re $150 volunteer deposit – will get check back for sure, yes – Como Mite Jamboree and North St Paul Mite Jamboree coming up – Torri will put information on website – collecting donations for the initiation raffle – kudos to Torri – initiation parents really like the website – Back to subject of recruiting for more initiation players – What do? Who should contact be? Put down Bob’s yahoo email address – print out a bunch of flyers – each of us go to the warming houses and leave flyers.
Boys Program Coordinator: Mark Mohar. – working on a boy’s program evaluation - watching practices & games.  The goal of the audit is to be able to say “How are we doing”.
District Representative: Chris Drews. – not present - Jean has email report from Chris and he sent out District 1 playoff brackets – The only other info that I have to communicate is we are now allowed to request scrimmage and game referee coverage any time and they will try to fulfill needs on a case by case basis.  Also there is one change to the brackets and that is Washburn B Bantams are now a C team and will compete at that level for the remainder of the season and through playoffs.
Ice Commissioner: Jackie Rog.  – girl’s tournament information coming out this weekend – Dist 2 – C’s might be changing – more practice ice is coming for 2/10 to 2/28.
Registration Coordinator: Jeanne Falconer. –- try and encourage everyone to go online to register for MN hockey – need to revisit registration on the IYHA website – payment issue – c/b doing credit card payments - sent list to treasurer at Lake Region for membership dues – 246 active skaters currently.
Equipment Manager: Tom Johnson. – June ordered jerseys and socks – exceeded budget – $4475 is due to Lettermans – budget was $2800 – had enough jerseys and socks but cost more than thought – have one extra set of jerseys – Jackie R made a motion to increase budget to $4475 – seconded by BG – all approved – motion carried. CarolineBellBeckman is offering to put the name of her law firm on a set of jerseys and help pay for them - fundraising committee working on same idea of putting corporate sponsors on jerseys – sell jerseys to kids when too old to use?
Standing Reports:
Player and Coach Development: Mark Mohar. – goalie clinic tomorrow night at SSR – approaching end of year 2 of our program for boys – are where we should be? – will be a 5 year program – need to be patient – may require an attitude/perception change – parents and coaches need to be positive – expectations need to raised – will happen over time – Coach comment: skills clinics are a positive thing but what is our direction? Some coaches are not encouraged to be on the ice – nothing is there for coaches – need a practice book to use for the entire life cycle of a player – skills should end in January and then use the remaining ice time for practices – Parent comment: some kids aren’t excited about going to skills because covering the basics – we need a game book (system) for each level to use as they go thru all levels of our association – best practices? Try to get a coaching manual by the start of next season – may be hard to compile and get approval from the entire coaching staff – who will step up and do it? A parent or the player development committee?
Lake Region: Jackie Rog. – end of year audit – clean bill of health – Katies only one to make money this month – a lot of sites not open due to holiday parties – have a signed agreement with Big Ten – to city council and gambling commission – April 1st will start selling our pull tabs – new pull tab MV and IYHA with goalie on it – coming out this month – 1500 gambling assns at beginning of year – 300 have folded – Lake Region looks good.
Torri – City of MV newsletter – IYHA no longer listed on the back – who should contact them? Parents gathering for parent in need – fundraising effort will be started – board will donate something – do a Caring Bridge website.
Tom J - Pay for storage locker at golf course? Not that we know of.
No additional business
