IYHA First Annual Sponsorship Day
Mark and reserve this day on your calendar – Saturday August 19th!
This will be the first annual Irondale Youth Hockey Sponsorship Day. Players, supervised by parents will go into the community and seek sponsorship donations. IYHA has all the necessary city permits and we are working on getting endorsements from the Mayor of each community.
The donations received from this sponsorship day will go directly toward player development and reducing costs for all players this year. Families are highly encouraged to participate since the proceeds will benefit the entire association, from Mites to Bantams. Greater participation will translate to more money raised for our association.
How this works:
§         Saturday, August 19th, meet at Irondale High School at 8:30 am.
§         Players (girls and boys) and parents will be divided into groups.
§         Each group will be given an area to canvas. Each group will also be given all of the necessary papers necessary for this event.
§         The morning event is from 9 to noon, and teams will meet back at Irondale High School to turn in donations and get a new route and supplies.
§         The afternoon event is from 1 to 4 pm, and teams will meet back at Irondale High School to turn in donations.
Area captains will be identified ahead of time, stay tuned you may be contacted.
Other volunteers needs right now are below. Contact Cheryl Mason:
1. Tournament planning.
2. Planning for the second annual ‘Let’s Play Hockey skating event which will be held in September.
3. Schwan’s Fundraising Program.
IYHA Boys Coaches-
As you may have been reading in the IYHA newsletter, player development has been a main focus over the summer months for Irondale Hockey.  A new Player Development Committee was formed at the May meeting with the purpose of guiding all player development in the coming years.  The committee members are Jeff Opperman, Mark Hentges and myself.
Our first Player Development Committee made the recommendation to run weekly skill clinics using a hired Director of Player and Coach Development.  The presentation at the May meeting is attached.  The board of directors have approved moving forward with this process using the job descriptions in the two other attached documents.  The committee is in the process of acquiring a list of candidates for this new position.  Before the final decision is made, we will be hosting an association wide meeting with the finalists for the position, sometime in the later part of August.
This player development venture needs your support.  There is going to be skepticism among the membership, since this is a new direction for Irondale Hockey.  Our goal is to create the best possible hockey program for the kids in this area.
Any feedback on this process is welcome.  The email address for this committee is .  This email box is accessible to all members of the committee.  If you are interested in applying for this position, please send resume and references to the committee.  Application deadline is July 28.

IYHA 2006-2007 Season Registration Dates:
All are in the Freedom Park Warming House Fireside Room.
Tuesday, August 8th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Saturday, August 19th from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
September 14th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
IYHA 20,000 Puck Club
IYHA has a 20,000 Puck Club, which started this spring and will go through the summer. Players that shoot at least 20,000 pucks (10,000 for returning Initiation players) during the off-season from now until the end of August will receive a 20,000 Puck Club t-shirt next fall.  All you have to do is write down the number of pucks you shoot each day in the calendar provided, add up the total, have you and a parent or guardian sign the sheet and turn it in at registration next fall.
The key to developing a good shot is to practice shooting.  It is a small investment of your time to achieve big results.  Having a good shot does not take magic, it just takes practice.
 Have Fun!

Board Roundtable:
President: Jim Cich has resigned his position. This is a great loss to our Association. He has done a lot to support our Association moving forward. He will be greatly missed.
Vice President: Cheryl Mason. Registered for New Brighton parade. Waiting for applications for Mounds View and St. Anthony. Working on corporate fundraising. We have a group of people that are helping with that. Working on other opportunities. Send information to Cheryl about what volunteers are needed and the hours that are needed—a wish list for volunteers.
Secretary: Niki Gjere. Newsletter submissions are due on July 7th.
Treasurer: Tom O’Keefe. Randy has goalie equipment that his son has outgrown. Mark and Tom will work on this issue—if we should buy the equipment back, what the value is. Reviewed a graph of expenses and what everything was spent. Discussion of points in charts. Need to draft a budget for July, and in August we will vote on them. Tom will email out a format for budget. Once we have the totals, will review and set costs for registration.
Boys Program Coordinator: Mark Mohar. We have 12 goalies signed up for the goalie clinic. We can take more goalies. Initiation through High School Instructor will be Ian Anderson—he is the video coordinator for the Wild, he played for St. Johns in the late 90’s as a goalie.
Player Development Committee report: Mark Mohar. Reviewed document “Irondale Youth Hockey Association (IYHA) Director of Player and Coach Development Position and Restructuring of ACE Coordinator Role.” Motion to approve the role as stated in the document (NG) (MM). Discussion. Committee would be in charge of doing HEP. Program Coordinators will be in charge to make sure the Coaches CEP are completed and current. Somebody within the committee would be formally named the ACE Coordinator to assure that we are in compliance with having a named ACE Coordinator. Should we have a clearer description of CEP level, and a specific evaluation process. This person would help implement dryland training into IYHA. The Committee sets the strategy and the Director of Player and Coach Development implements. Motion carried. Next month, the committee will have a list of applicants and hopefully interviews completed / and a recommendation.
Girls Program Coordinator: Chris Tahti. Absent.
Initiation Program Coordinator: Bob Gabler. Still getting up to speed. Will have more for next meeting.
Ice Commissioner: Renae Olesen. Super Rink sent out ice to Mounds View Ice person. He divided ice and wanted to meet. It was premature to meet. Ice is very favorable to Mounds View. Ice Committee will meet with Super Rink and Mounds View Ice person to discuss ice. Will contact Ramsey County to see if we can get ice allocation in a meeting. . Target ice that we would like to have total is 801 hours.
Equipment Coordinator: Randy Bortot. Absent. Has gotten together an inventory of equipment.
Registration Coordinator: Jeanne Falconer. Registration Thursday August 10th from 6-9 p.m.—will change that because it is NB Stockyard Days parade. Will look to do this on Tuesday, August 8th; Saturday, August 19th from 10-2; and September 14th from 6-9. Site is the Freedom Park Warming House Fireside Room.
District Representative: Tom Welty. Report submitted electronically. No meeting at District 1, nothing new to report.
Additional Reports:
Lake Region Hockey Association: Jeanne Falconer. There was a question at the last meeting about what happened that checks were to be written for a specific item. The auditor is willing to provide this information. The compliance audit stated this needed to occur. Checks need to be written to a specific fund or need. We can ask that we use the funds for the Player Development person if we would like. We can ask that Lake Region fund the goalie clinic. Mounds View City Council approved the pull-tabs for Mo’s be to Lake Region. It will take a little while for Mo’s to get up and running. They are always looking for new sites. Meeting is next Tuesday. At 6:30 at Mo’s.
Motion to adjourn meeting (NG) (JF), Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
