IYHA Move to D10 Finalized!
by posted 02/03/2010

All,

Minnesota Hockey took a vote last weekend and is shutting down District 1 as a competitive organization. They did vote to allow us to move to District 10. District 10 took a vote Monday night. WE ARE IN DISTRICT10!!!

This is very exciting news for us as an association. This is great because we will be approx number 10 out of 17 associations in size by last year's numbers. Every league game is going to count for something and there will be a lot of them. There were over 500 D10 games at the Super Rink this season and throw in Fogerty and Centennial Arenas and we will have ALOT of games close to home. Plenty of competition up and down the ranks on both the boys and girls side. This is going to be a fun and exciting adventure.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, with the end of District 1 approaching it is no time like the present to crank up expectations of our players, coaches, and parents to put on a dazzling display at Districts, Regions and State at EVERY level. It would be great if we could raise a few more banners in the last year of District 1 as we know it. We have talked about raising expectations and this year I believe the bar has been raised but we still have a long way to go. The players want to get competitive, lets give them this opportunity to play with their friends and COMPETE.

Keep the Eye on the prize and finish strong!!! Take a look at this if you want to get excited

http://www.finishstrongmovie.com/

We will need to fulfill all of our responsibilities to District 1. There will be a few more opportunities to get in your volunteer hours. Please remember to record your volunteer hours online.

Finally, we are forming a Nominating Committee to help with the upcoming elections. We have a few Board positions that will be opening up. We are going to need a lot of help through this transition to District 10. PLEASE, consider where your skills can help us as an organization and lend a hand. It is a very rewarding experience.

Thank you for everything.

Kevin Bourassa
IYHA President

MN Hockey Day 2010 Huge Success for our Knights!
by posted 01/23/2010

FSN is sending a camera crew to film our Knights!

Celebrate Minnesota Hockey Day 2010, Irondale Style!

For Hockey Day 2010 Irondale players playied an outdoor game on Long Lake at the Squirt C Coach Phil Herbert's rink. It was a joint event with the PeeWee & Squirt Cs with the Dark Jersey team including all players living south of Long Lake and the White team including all players living North of the lake.

The South Team took home the "win" over the North Team although everyone won during this awesome event.  Even the unusual weather let up for the game and was not much of a factor.

Fox Sports News sent camera crew and it was watched at Moe's of Mounds View where the Boys High School team was finishing up their pancake breakfast/silent auction fundraiser.

Pictures from the event are posted in the Pictures section of the website.

Thanks to the Herbert Family for hosting.  Thanks to Gerry Johnsen for the pictures.  Thanks to everyone who assisted ans supported this event.

The scoreboard is ready for some fun on MN Hockey Day

Recruits from all over are brought in for this big event!

Youth Appreciation Night At Boys HS Game Pictures Posted
by posted 01/22/2010

Thanks to all the Youth Players who attended the Knights High School Boys High School Game Thursday, January 21.  It was well attended and the Mites White team did a great job in the introduction and during their scrimmage. For those who didn't stay for the whole game or who didn't make it, our Varsity players staged a huge comeback and almost overcame their 1st period stumble.  The final score was a loss to Chisago Lakes 8-7.

Pictures are posted on the High School website - www.speed-fire.com  Go to Pictures on the left hand side of the home page and click on the Youth Hockey Night Folder.  They are also scrolling on the home page and all pictures are available for download.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

December, 2009

Actors Theater of Minnesota to present the

US Premier of Hockey Mom Hockey Dad at the Lowry Theater

(St. Paul, MN) Actors Theater of Minnesota, resident company of the Lowry Theater, will present the US premier of HOCKEY MOM, HOCKEY DAD, January 14 – February 28, 2010.

Hockey Mom, Hockey Dad by Michael Melski is a slashing two-hander about two lonely single parents who meet and fall in love while watching their kids play a season of minor hockey. In their section of the bleachers in an old rink, they find the best and worst in themselves reflected by the game. Love and violence collide in this tender and sometimes disturbing story about Canada’s national obsession.

In 2003 Hockey Mom, Hockey Dad was produced at the Factory Theatre (Toronto) and revived later that year in a production that enjoyed sold out shows and garnered rave reviews. The production was honored with numerous Dora nominations and it drew national attention from all the major regional theatres. In the years since it has been produced in dozens of other Canadian cities, scoring with audiences and critics alike everywhere it's mounted. Actors Theater is trilled to be hosting the USpremier.

Author, Michael Melski is an award-winning writer and filmmaker who has achieved success in film, television, and theatre. The production is directed by Ross Young and features Heidi Fellner and EJ Subkoviak in the title roles.

The Production is being staged in the Lowry Theater in Downtown Saint Paul’s Theater District., located at 16 West Fifth Street, Saint Paul, MN55102.

Production Schedule: Thursday, January 14 through Sunday, February 28, 2010. Performance times:

Thursdays through Saturdays 7:30 p.m.

Sundays at 5:00 p.m.

Tickets: $19.50 - $27.50 and are available through 651-290-2290

This is an offer through the Actors Theater of Minnesota.
This is not an endorsement of the program by the Irondale Association.

Randy Bortot Update - He Sends Thanks for Your Support
by posted 12/20/2009

Randy Bortot, one of our PeeWee Coaches, was in a motorcycle accident Wednesday night November 11 on the way to practice.  We will post information here if necessary, but in the meantime, please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.

Randy has a Facebook page that he updates.

After the Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser on December 19th, he posted the following message:
Would like to thank everyone who came to the benefit this morning. Huge thanks the heather schilling and applebees

Randy had additional surgery on Monday, December 21st.  According to his facebook page updated by a friend:
..........Just talked to Randy's sister Sheryl. Surgery went very well, doctor was very pleased. Fusion went great and he cleaned up all the bone fragments from around his spine, neck and shoulder area. He'll be in the halo for another 4 weeks or so and will be quite sore so he's going to need all the help and support of his friends. Not sure how long he'll be in HCMC, most likely the whole week.

As of December 29th, Randy is out of the hospital and recovering at home.

As of January 4th, he no longer needs "Randy Buddies" to keep an eye on him.  Thank you to everyone at Irondale Youth Hockey for your outstanding support!
